Sonnet Class

Senior Thesis Writing Class

A six hour class over the course of six weeks looks at sonnet forms and elements of poetry to better understand the brilliance of Shakespeare's Sonnets. Students will gain an appreciation for Shakespeare's language and the creativity that flows from rigid form. Keys to memorizing are given with the intention that each participant will memorize a sonnet of their choice as their final project. This class is taught through CAST Theater in Manchester, CT. Check out their website for more details and to sign up.

Designed for the college-bound senior, the progymnasmata for this class builds thinking and writing discipline with cycles of outlining, invention, and revision. Throughout the semester, students work rigorously on thesis papers that cover topics of their own choice. During and outside of class, they also complete thirteen additional required papers. The class concludes with a final 15-20 page draft of their thesis paper and a public thesis defense.
